Component 3: Teaching Practice and Learning Environment

Component 3 asks you to demonstrate accomplished teaching through video evidence from your classroom.

You will submit video recordings, supporting materials, and written commentary that help scorers understand your instructional decisions, interactions with students, classroom environment, and impact on learning.

The goal is not to produce a perfect lesson. The goal is to select strong evidence of meaningful teaching and clearly explain what that evidence demonstrates.

What Is Component 3 Really Asking You to Demonstrate?

Component 3 is about the relationship between your teaching decisions and your students’ learning.

Your video evidence and written commentary should help scorers understand:

• What students were expected to learn
• Why you designed the instruction as you did
• How you created an engaging and supportive learning environment
• How you interacted with students during instruction
• How students engaged with the content and one another
• How you monitored understanding and responded to student needs
• What the video reveals about student learning
• How you would use this evidence to strengthen future instruction

The exact requirements vary by certificate area, so always follow your current certificate-specific instructions.
